Essential Weight Loss Plans And Objectives

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

weight_lossIf you are planning a health programme of any kind the first thing to consider is your objective. Without an objective or definite plan your health programme will go astray and the results will be non-existent or not long lasting in any case. If you give yourself an objective you will have a better idea on how to accomplish it.

Should your aim be weight loss, plan it out carefully, better still write down a definite programme, noting how much weight you wish to lose and in what period span you intend to lose the weight.

Keep in mind that if you want to lose your weight permanently, you must not go on crash diets, but should be losing about one or two pounds a week.

If your aim is strength training or you plan to improve your endurance, then write down your programme specifying the steps to follow and the progress you are making, in order to achieve your objective. Keep in mind that if you have figures to measure up to you will surely succeed.

Before starting any programme you must pass the S.M.A.R.T test. S.M.A.R.T stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.

When you have decided what programme to implement ask yourself whether it is specific, in other words is it the right kind of programme for what I plan to achieve, is it measurable, how many pounds will I be losing, can you achieve results, are they to extreme or am I up to it?

Ask yourself whether it is realistic or feasible and lastly if it is timely, that is you must plan a length of time in which to implement your plan and the aim you intend to reach must be realistically attainable. If your programme passes all the questions then it is the right one for you and it will surely work.

Keep an objective point of view and keep to your target, there is an exact distance you need to go and you have to plan when to get there.

You cannot just state that your plan is to keep fit and lose weight; it is too evasive, when will you be sure you have reached your objective? You must give yourself more precise aims, determining the exact weight you intend to lose and the amount of push ups or runs you can do at the end of your programme.

When you fix specific figures for your programme, as for example by the end of your programme you wish to run three miles, increase your strength by double your current one and lose one stone in two months, this will help you achieve them for it has passed all the points in the S.M.A.R.T test.

To make things a little easier, to begin with you may start with smaller objectives that span over shorter periods of time, for one month or two at the most.

Once you have fixed your aims, you will find it easier to abide to them and you will be making fitness and health an integrated part of your life style

Do Detox Diets Work?

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

detox1The brands producing detox products for dieting guarantee wonders for weight loss, as much as one stone in less than two weeks. These detox diets also promise renewed skin, the end of cellulite and a healthier body in general.

But are these detox diet really effective? They work on the basis that our body accumulates a large number of toxins during the day, with the consumption of alcohol, caffeine, an unhealthy diet pattern, pollution and pesticides, these factors all contribute in poisoning our system.

Once these toxins have accumulated in our body, health problems may start to arise; amongst these are fatigue, generalised pains, headaches, a weakened immune system as well as weight gain.

Detox diets aim to remove all these damaging toxins that poison our systems in order for the body to recover a healthier condition.

There are many kinds of detox diets some are very extreme such as fasting, bowel enemas and colonic irrigation, others are more pleasant and relaxing, and these involve treatments such as body brushing and saunas.

There are also other supplements to be taken, including herbal remedies and special detox drinks and tonics.

Detox diets also suggest you keep to a specific kind of diet, which will include herbal teas, plenty of water, vegetables and fruit, grains, nuts and beans. On the other hand they warn against all kinds of dairy products, eggs, meat, fish, salt, sugar, alcohol and caffeine as well as all kinds of processed food.

It is true that detox diets do help you lose weight, specifically due to the fact that there is an extremely low calorie content, for dairy products are excluded from the detox diet, as well as other food categories, which are high in fats and carbohydrates such as meat, sugar and wheat products.

The more you cut down on the calories the more weight you will lose, it just depends how strict your diet is and how much you are able give up amongst your favourite food types.

The advantage of detox diets is that following this sort of regimen you will be increasing the consumption of vegetables and fruit as well as drinking more water and eliminating unhealthy food, caffeine and alcohol, this healthier diet will no doubt give positive results to your general health.

On the other hand these detox diets are very poor in nutrients, which can eventually lead to a weaker immune system and your body, may lack in some of the essential nutrients it needs to build up muscle tissue and cell renewal.

With these methods of dieting most of the weight you lose is water and some fat due to the strict regimen, but it is very easily put back on once you go back to your usual habits.

There are other side effects to detox diets, such as headaches, nausea and a sense of fatigue; this is because your body is not receiving enough food to be able to function properly.

These very strict diets may also lead you to yearn for a fattening food type you really like until you finally give in to the temptation, thus achieving quite the opposite effect they were meant for.

Lose Weight By Dressing “Thinner”

lose-weightLosing weight can be tough and if is done in a healthy manner, can take time. Everyone who has gone on a diet knows that there is always that in between stage, where you are not the size that you once were but also not the size that you want to be. Thankfully, there are ways to look thinner without actually being thinner. Wearing the right clothes can easily “take off” 10-15 pounds. In this article, we’ll discuss some clever ways to camouflage those extra pounds.

1.      Forget the baggy clothes: Many people who are overweight try to hide behind baggy clothes. This is a huge no-no. Baggy clothes will only make you look bigger and boxy. Instead, find clothes that fit. You will look much slimmer and pulled together. Also be careful not to wear clothes that are too tight either. These types of clothing will likely be very unflattering.

2.      Choose the right length: Long skirts often look best on taller women and can have a slimming effect. If you are shorter, look for skirts that fall just below the knee. You will look leaner and longer.

3.      Choose Patterned Clothing: Patterns can hide many of our trouble spots. The only ones that you should absolutely be avoided are stripes, both vertical and horizontal. However, except for these two, patterns can camouflage many imperfections. They also can be quite fashionable and attractive.

4.      V-lines are good: V-line shirts and sweaters can divert attention upward toward the face and not the abdomen.

5.      Leave tapered styles in the store: Tapered and flare pants cuts are not for everyone. This is especially true if your have wider hips and legs. Dark wash jeans and/or pants with a straight cut generally look best.

6.      Avoid Bulky Knits: Wearing bulky fabrics can instantly make you look 10 or 15 pounds heavier. Absolutely avoid these especially around your hips and waist.

7.      Wear Heels: Heels add a bit of sexiness and can help your waist and hips look thinner. Now, you don’t have to wear 5 inch heels.  2-3 inches can really help you look slimmer.

8.      Wear The Right Undergarments: Wearing the right undergarments can make a huge difference. They can help smooth out rolls and drastically improve the fit of your clothing. Investing in quality girdles and shaping garments can help you look a size or two smaller.

We are not always at our ideal weight or comfortable and satisfied with our bodies. Many times, while we are in the process of losing weight, we go through stages where we don’t feel confident about how we look. Wearing the right clothes can instantly help us look a couple sizes smaller and 10 pounds lighter. Choosing clothes that fit, wearing patterns and avoiding bulky fabrics can be very beneficial. High heels and good quality undergarments (i.e., girdles, shapers and panties) also make a huge difference and can help individuals appear thinner.

Of course, one does not have to sole simply rely on clothing to look thing. Consuming a low fat, well balanced diet with plenty of veggies and starting a consistent and challenging exercise program can help individuals take off the weight so that they can begin to look good in everything that they wear.
