Help For Generalized Anxiety Disorder Without Medication

Anxiety is a very common ailment that can effect seniors and children and everyone in between. It can be caused by numerous events or social situations that can result in an onset of feelings that force the patient to become upset, nervous or saddened. Typically it is treated with medications, but you can receive help for generalized anxiety disorder without medication if you would prefer that form.

To get the help for generalized anxiety disorder without medication you need to determine all of the circumstances in which your anxiety flares up. This may be when you leave the house, it can occur when you go to work or school and even at night just trying to get some sleep. Anxiety is commonly from a fear of something, a fear of the unknown or a fear of being in a social situation. You can begin to treat your anxiety without medication by writing down when you have your anxiety attacks. How long do they last and how often the occur. This will give you some frame of reference as to why these attacks are happening. It can be due to a similar event that keeps happening such as when you have to go to the doctor’s or when you need to drive somewhere yourself. Take those similarities and work on the root of the issue that is bothering you to bring on the anxiety symptoms.

Prior to having the days where you are most likely to have an attack with your anxiety try some different techniques leading up to the event to try to avoid it developing. Some people find the paper bag technique to be useful to help them take in a few deep breaths and some simply avoid engaging in the activity that brings on their bout with anxiety all together. If it is not something you can stop attending, then try to get more sleep. Take an over the counter sleeping agent and go to bed early the night before if you need to, any time you get more sleep your mind is at ease and the next day is less of a struggle. Also eat something the day of the event to further calm down any of your anxiety symptoms. Meditation, yoga and reading are also all very useful suggestions to get help for generalized anxiety disorder without medication. If those do not help, you may need to seek some form of counseling to provide another form of help that does not require taking medication for your anxiety.
