Low Carb Diets And Muscle Loss

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

diet5Diets which require the dieter to dramatically lower their intake of carbohydrates have become extremely popular in recent times. It is important however, if you are trying this type of diet, then you need to focus on your flexibility since this these diets have a very significant effect on muscles as you will be deriving all your energy from proteins rather than carbohydrates.

To focus on flexibility, you will need to practice some stretching exercises which are extremely good for the muscles. Even after you come off the diet, you should still be in a strict routine of daily stretching exercises.

Stretching is similar in many ways to dieting and like dieting; there are some things to be avoided while other activities should be encouraged. It is important to take your diet to the next level, and start to realize that other activities away from the dinner table should also be participated in for maximum benefit to your health.

You can compare your muscles to an elastic band. If you stretch them too much you will damage them while if you exercise them in the correct amount, your muscles will become more pliant and well toned. It is very important to keep the right pace by taking your individual needs and characteristics into account.

If you are on a low carbohydrate diet and getting a high amount of protein which your body can convert into energy, then you are in the ideal situation to making your muscles more flexible.

There are supplements on the market that can assist in keeping muscle mass in shape as well as enhance your general body tone, but these should not be considered a long term substitute for a regular healthy diet that will keep your muscles in shape.

When you are practicing stretching exercises it is important to realize that there are some basic rules that you should follow such as not forcing the parts of your body into motions that are unnatural. This can be harmful at worst and plain useless at best.

It is also important to remember that stretching exercises are supposed to help the body, and should not be painful or particularly trying. It is a good idea to avoid deep knee bends just as you should not try a stretching exercise that may damage your back.

Bananas are highly effective in keeping muscle fatigue; especially cramps at bay by reducing acid build up in the muscles caused by exercise

It is a good idea to combine stretching with your low carbohydrate diet and get into a rigid routine of exercising. This will improve your health overall by making your muscles more flexible and your athletic performance.

Also, you do not need a great deal of energy for such exercises, so it makes it more straightforward than ever to help you lose weight and tone your muscles at the same time.

Making Exercise Fun

exercise3For many people, one of the most difficult parts of losing weight is the exercise requirements that are often involved. Now, some individuals choose to lose weight by simply cutting back on what they eat. They may not exercise for a number of reasons. Some common ones include, simply not enjoying exercise, they may be too out of shape or embarrassed to work out in front of other people. Many of these reasons are valid. However, it is important that when people can exercise, they should.

Exercising will make weight loss much easier and allow persons to “cheat” a little on the foods that they do consume. It is much easier to stay on a diet when one is able to eat some of their favorite foods or can at least eat a decent number of calories. Restrictive diets are hard to follow and generally lead to binging. Another reason that persons should add physical activity to their diet plan is that it helps to shape and tone the body. Weight loss plans that don’t require working out often leave individuals thinner but flabby (most people want to avoid this).

It is also much more difficult to keep the weight off because plans that only focus on what foods are eaten can cause individuals to lose muscle which makes it much more difficult to burn calories and fat in the future. While most of this information is common knowledge is common sense, the hard part is actually coming up with an exercise program and then following through. For people who don’t like to get physical this can be quite hard. The “trick” is to make working out fun. We’ll provide some tips on how to do just that in this article.

Find Something That You Like: This is probably pretty obvious but it needs to be stated.  You need to find something that you like. This will keep you motivated to hang in there. It is much easier to stick with something that you enjoy. If you find that you dread working out, you are less likely to do it.

Think Outside the Box: Your exercise program does not have to be relegated to simply jogging or walking. There are so many other things to do that will give you a great workout and that are also more exciting and varied. If you are a member of a fitness club, take a look at some of the different types of classes that they offer. If you are not, there are still plenty of options.  Try purchasing an exercise tape, training with a marathon group or joining an intramural sports team.

Change Things Up: One of the easiest ways to get into an exercise rut is to do the same things over and over. Most likely, you will get bored and quit. To avoid this, every couple of weeks or perhaps even every few days, do something different. This will help keep you excited and also will keep your muscles off balance so that you will continue to burn calories most efficiently.

Find A Workout Buddy: It is generally much more fun to work out with a partner. Having someone to talk to while you are exercising and who is there to provide mutual support can make the process much more fun and exciting.

Diet And Exercise Fit Together To Reduce Weight

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

bellyWhen starting out on a diet, as with anything else, you need to begin with a robust plan and a realistic target to aim for.

If wanting to lose weight and get back into good, healthy shape is your goal, then to have any chance of success, you need to consider the key factors of exercise and nutrition. Without paying equal attention to both of these, you simply won’t get anywhere.

While some people say that exercise is the most significant issue, others believe that you can lose weight just by simply eating less.

The fact is, however, is that you cannot achieve weight loss and maintaining a healthy figure unless you pay equal attention to both of these factors.

Nutrition is something that your body needs for, to put it simply, it transforms the food you eat into fuel for the body and is required for the proper, healthy functions of your body.

Without good nutrition, you leave yourself open to all manner of physical ailments.

The standard nutrients your body needs include proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals and vitamins, and, certainly not to be overlooked, plenty of water.

Paying attention to these factors will help you to build up the perfect body and stay in good shape.

There are various guides out there that are easy to come by which list the recommended amounts of each nutrient you should be consuming each day, based on your sex, height and weight. How much of each nutrient you should take really depends on your individual needs but there are some general rules however.

It is not necessary to take Vitamin C every day since it is kept in the liver, but Vitamin C disappears from the body quickly and should be consumed more frequently.

The amount of each nutrients required by your body will also vary depending on your lifestyle; for example; a pregnant woman’s nutritional needs will be quite different to the needs of a child or a sports player.

A balanced and nutritional diet provides your body with protein for the immune system, glucose for energy and calcium to keep your bones strong.

The opposite to this is malnutrition, when your body lacks one or more of the nutrients it requires to function properly. This can lead to many types of illnesses. Particularly vulnerable to malnutrition problems are pregnant women, the elderly and heavy drinkers.

To be realistic, it is not practical to follow the food guidelines religiously on every single product you buy, but it is not necessary either. Your goal should be to use them as guidelines only and use your common sense for the rest, avoiding obviously junk foods such as stuff which is heavily processed.

Balancing your diet need not by anything like as hard as you may think and it is simply a matter of developing some good eating habits in order to get the nutrients your body needs.
