Losing all of the weight gained during pregnancy does not usually happen when you deliver your baby. Most women do gain additional weight, and for many it is very difficult to get back to the desired pre-pregnancy numbers on the bathroom scale.
You’re extra busy, probably sleep-deprived, and often just plain tired. Who wants to think about exercising?

The great news is that you don’t really have to think about it. Just doing what comes naturally to most women will burn more calories and tone more muscles than an average workout at the gym. You could call it “carrying the baby after carrying the baby”.
Most babies are happiest when they are being cradled in Mother’s arms, and holding, rocking and transporting a baby without benefit of a stroller or carriage is great exercise. So is Slow Dancing with Baby, and you can practice new steps with no fear of critics!

If you haven’t been in the habit of getting regular exercise, this is the time to start changing your ways. However, almost any activity will result in extra calories burned and resultant weight loss if it’s done with baby – in your arms or in tow.

Figure out what form of physical exercise appeals to you most, and take your baby along. (This does not apply to skydiving, stunt driving and such, but you’re sure to have another option or two!) Walking, cycling and cross-country skiing are just a small sample of the baby-friendly possibilities.

For many of us, exercise is more of an ordeal than a pleasure. This does not need to be the case; in fact exercising can and should be a part of your daily routine that you look forward to with enthusiasm. Many otherwise lethargic people find that exercising with a friend is a great motivator.

Mothers with babies can find other mothers with babies at any community center, and you’re almost sure to find a group of compatible cohorts in your pursuit of après pregnancy fitness.

It should be noted that though exercise is beneficial in just about every way imaginable, you can’t go from pregnant to svelte in a hurry. Your body needs some time to recuperate, but the amount of time depends on the state of your health and the exercise or lack of it you were getting before your pregnancy.

If you were used to regular exercise, whether moderate or intensive, you’ll probably be relieved to get back to your routine, but you should always check with your doctor and make sure you’re not overdoing it.

For those women who have never been interested in exercise in any form, don’t wait to have it forced upon you. Start out slowly and gradually, with activities you enjoy.

In fact, don’t think of it as “exercise”. Think of it as a walk in the park – literally! Or a stroll in the mall, if that suits you better. The idea is to get moving and keep moving, and if you’re carrying the baby along, you get the added bonus of bonding while you burn up the calories.

The latest information from research carried out by universities and hospitals around the world indicates that how well you eat and how well you breathe are definitely related.

While current reports show that the percentage of Americans with asthma has risen by about sixty percent over the last 25 years, they also indicate that there is a way to lower the number of asthma sufferers. The solution, many experts claim, lies at least partly in a change of diet.

A direct correlation has been determined in the incidence of asthma to overweight and obesity. It has been estimated by the National Jewish Health Center in Denver that those who are overweight are about twice as likely to develop asthmatic symptoms as those who maintain their ideal weight.

A number of studies conducted by researchers in England, Greece, Spain and Portugal have produced similar findings on the subject of diet and asthmatic tendencies. Overall, the consensus seems to be that a diet along the lines of what is commonly known as the Mediterranean Diet is one good way to prevent or reduce asthma in adults and children.

The basics of the Mediterranean Diet are fish, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans and olive oil as opposed to other cooking oils. These are, of course, basics of any healthy diet.

However, the Mediterranean life style is also a part of this approach, as it involves the freshest of fruits and vegetables and a minimal amount of pre-packaged food products. In addition, there is generally a lot more physical activity on a daily basis than most Americans undertake.

Ongoing research continues to find additional benefits in the use of olive oil, which is rich in monounsaturated fat and works as an anti-inflammatory agent. Another such agent is the omega-3 fatty acid found in cold-water fish. Among other studies, those at Harvard Medical School reported a significantly lower percentage of asthma symptoms in adults whose diets included at least five grams a day of fish oil.

Much of the research documented indicates that the polyunsaturated fats in cooking oils such as corn, safflower and sunflower are among the causes of inflammation leading to asthma attacks. These ingredients are also found in meat and processed foods, and should be avoided whenever possible.

The facts are not all in, but it seems clear at this time that the fiber, minerals and vitamins contributed by fresh produce and whole grains are strong contributors to good health in general. Specifically, omega-3 fatty acids in fish, avocados and olive oil reduce inflammation and help prevent many chronic diseases, including asthma.

Studies of the Mediterranean diet and life style over the past 50 years suggest one unarguable conclusion: the combination of fresh, unprocessed foods and regular physical exercise can prevent many of the ills to which Americans in particular are subject. If you can change a few bad habits, you can look and feel like a whole new man or woman.

Certain jobseekers will not be offered a position within a company, because of their childhood history, once stated that they suffered from ADHD as a young child.

These normal jobseekers, yet regarded as drug abusers, are deemed a security threat due to the medication they once took, to keep their disorder under more of a control.

Is there a real need to give children any sort of drugs, such as Risperdal, Concerta and Adderall to try and calm down any sort of behavior, which is just seen sometimes, as being over-playful by some people. Why introduce children to any sort of drugs in the first place? they may come to accept these medicines as being the norm and be more prone to try harder drugs later on in life. Do you really want your child walking around sedated?

The parents of ADHD children have come to believe that there are other methods and other ways of helping to control the disorder, more natural ways then the prescribed drugs that are on offer. Reports have claimed that there are some alarming concerns in children taking some of these drugs, with as many as 570 children taken into hospital and even more shocking, that some 186 children have died as an indirect result over a 10 year span.

Dr Feingold’s, a leading expert in the area of Hyperactive children, has complied and published a book, listing diets especially made for children who are Hyperactive.

She suggests cutting back or cutting out completely, all food and drink that contain one or many E numbers and colorings. Some people are suggesting that the practices, Dr Feingold’s is offering, are too time consuming and picky to be able to work effectively.

There has been many cases come to light of naturally found remedies that have been introduced to families in the way of changing the day to day food and eating habits of all the family. These findings have been proven to be successful.

One family had a young child who suffered from ODD, in turn making the child difficult to handle at all times of the day. The family food habits were changed and the child in question has grown into quiet an achiever, without ever having the need to take any of the prescribed medicines. Another family reported that their child, turning into a monster once something sugary was eaten, after following the diets in the book by cutting out certain foods, their child behavior greatly improved.

Parents of children with ADHD are monitoring their child’s day to day eating habits and looking to establish if any certain foods were to trigger off a changes in their moods. One thing the parents are sure of, is that a more natural and safe solution to helping their children is better then just giving in to the drugs prescribed.

Shopping in our local mall may in fact, help us kick start our libidos, especially for some of us who need the help.

A candlelit dinner, a glass of wine, finished with a sexy dessert, may remind us of being on our first dates, would nowadays, finish with us putting our PJ’s on rather then climbing into bed for a marathon sex session. Our sex drives are driven more by what we eat and our lifestyles, rather then each other.

To be a tiger between the sheets, have led us, as consumers, to spend all sorts of money on items offering to make us better lovers. Hippo snouts and hyena eyeballs were known to be used by the Romans to spice up their love lives. Rhino horns were the preferred choice of Chinese people.

Pfizer took over $995 million dollars for sales of their drug Viagra, taking a huge chunk of the market at over 70%. GlaxoSmithKline are also currently marketing their drug in America called Levitra. This was developed by Bayer and is available to purchase alongside two other wonder drugs created by ICOS and Eli Lilly called Cialis and Schering-Plough.

Throughout the years and for many more years to come, we all seem to believe that we can reawaken our libidos and rekindle our passions with Aphrodisiacs. Items such as oysters, herbs and many other things, along with a quote from the Greek goddess of beauty herself, Aphrodite, have all failed to spark a flame.

By taking pills or playing around with any purchases, that offer to guarantee a pleasurable time, over 30% of men and under 50% of women sexual functions having a placebo effect. Many people think that by buying anything on offer such as food or tablets will be able to increase their sex drive, when really the mind is telling them that it can and will.

Changing your eating habits is one way of kick starting it. They say by eating Soy is good, as it keeps the vagina moist by decreasing hot flushes of menopause and joining estrogen receptors.

Men losing weight is considered a major factor in increasing their libido and in increasing sexual activity.

Men, who are considered overweight, according to reports, are showing their testosterone levels as being low and are having trouble getting erections. Too much of the wrong food can led to the clogging up of the arteries, which in turn can led to insufficient blood reaching the penis. Anxiety will then kick in, preventing the penis from getting an erection and in turn spoiling their sex lives.

We need all sorts of minerals and fats in our diets to help produce hormones which then in turn, help our sex drives to stay awake. Our everyday lifestyles from too much work, our marital and relationship problems and other complex issues, all combined together, will contribute to the lack of sex in our lives.

The practice of colon cleansing dates all the way back to the ancient Greeks, but it only caught on in the United States in the early 1900’s and has had a resurgence in popularity in the past 20 years. The current trends are toward either irrigation (high colonic) or a combination of ‘natural’ products designed to force the colon to expel any buildup of waste and toxins.

Whether these remedies are effective or entirely necessary is still unconfirmed, but one practice that is almost guaranteed to maintain a healthy colon is a diet containing a substantial amount of the foods that have been proven to foster good health in general and specifically good colon function. What you eat, not what is occasionally or periodically flushed through your colon, probably influences your health to the highest degree.

To begin with, you should drastically reduce your consumption of caffeine, refined sugar and flour, and hydrogenated fats – stay away from deep-fried anything. These all tend to inhibit the body’s natural detoxifying processes, among other drawbacks.

Fiber, both soluble and insoluble, is the key factor in the pursuit of a healthy colon. A high-fiber diet has been proven to reduce the risk of a whole range of gastrointestinal problems, among them constipation, diverticulitis and cancer of the colon and rectum. The average American’s diet includes less than half the fiber content that is currently recommended by the American Medical Association.

Soluble fiber has been proven to increase the amount of beneficial bacteria that your body produces to fight toxins. It is also important in managing blood cholesterol and relieving both diarrhea and constipation, to name only a few of its benefits.

The greatest concentration of soluble fiber is found in psyllium husks, with oat bran a close second. Peas, pinto beans and potatoes are rated highest in the vegetable category, and “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” is not just folklore – apples rate as the best of the fruits in soluble fiber content.

Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water but should be ingested with plenty of water, which serves to soften and speed up the flow of solid waste. Insoluble fiber is found in foods such as wheat bran, oat bran, linseed, all sorts of beans and (aha!) cocoa powder, among many others. Insoluble fiber is an absolute necessity for healthy bowels.

There are a few other essentials for ‘natural’ colon cleansing. Water is the first and most obvious, and four to six glasses a day is the recommended minimum for proper digestive function. Chlorophyll, which is found only in plants, is another vital ingredient in a healthy diet. Spinach is known to have the highest concentration found in ‘ordinary’ foods, but any green vegetable offers some of this highly desirable element.

Thousands of reports and studies have confirmed the value of a healthy digestive tract in every aspect of life. Colon cleansing is just one more aspect of the body’s natural processes that can be hampered or assisted, depending on the kind of nourishment you choose to take.

It is estimated that of the 23 million people in the United States who have been diagnosed with diabetes, between 90% and 95% are type 2 diabetics. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic but non-progressive disease. Though there is no effective cure known at this time, treatments have been found to control the disease and minimize the risk of severe consequences.

The causes of diabetes vary, but the disease is closely linked to obesity and dietary habits.

In type 2 diabetes, the body produces insulin, but not enough or not properly utilized. This means that sugar (glucose) builds up in the blood instead of going into the cells, which in turn means that the cells cannot function properly. The result of this insulin resistance may be damage to the eyes, kidneys and heart, among other problems.

Type 2 diabetes is known as a non-insulin dependent form of the disease, because if managed properly it does not progress or result in the severe symptoms that define type 1 diabetes. In fact, it has become established that the onset of type 2 diabetes can be prevented with some fairly simple ‘common sense’ adjustments in diet and lifestyle.

The main factor in control and prevention of diabetes is maintenance of an acceptable, consistent blood sugar level. Reducing (preferably eliminating) the intake of sugar and simple carbohydrates in the form of candy, sodas and pastries, for instance, is probably the first requirement. Not only will the blood sugar level be lowered, some weight loss usually accompanies this dietary change. Most diabetics are overweight, and the loss of even four to five pounds can make a significant difference in the body’s ability to use insulin effectively.

Another simple and painless step in controlling or preventing the onset of type 2 diabetes is avoiding big meals. Too often, many people get in the habit of snacking ‘on the run’ and then eating one large meal, usually late in the day. To maintain a steady blood sugar level and avoid the ‘spikes’ that can be so hazardous, the ideal practice is to eat less, and at regular intervals.

Substituting fruit or vegetables and juice for candy and Coke can become second nature with just a little practice. Lean meat, poultry, fish, and nuts, for example, provide necessary protein and complex carbohydrates to keep energy levels up and blood sugar levels on an even keel.

Besides diet, the other key factor in the control of diabetes is physical exercise. This does not mean a marathon workout once a month; rather mild, frequent exercise such as a brisk 45 minute walk every day.

Consistency is the key here, not extremes. Just taking the stairs instead of the elevator and walking at a rapid pace instead of an amble whenever possible can foster a substantial improvement in blood sugar levels and good health in general.

Screening for a pre-diabetic condition and subsequent adherence to a h

There can be no argument that a healthy diet is vital to the well-being of both mind and body, and never more so than during pregnancy. A pregnant woman is quite literally “eating for two” and the ultimate health of her baby depends to a great extent on how she nourishes it in the months before birth.

In addition, a vast number of studies all over the world have concluded that a mother’s milk is the ideal food for newborn babies, if that milk has not been contaminated or depleted of the nutrients necessary for an infant. There are some fairly standard guidelines for a pregnant or nursing mother to follow, but nothing is absolute and you should always consult your physician regarding your diet plan.

First of all, remember that the other one you’re feeding when you are pregnant only needs about 300 extra calories – about the equivalent of a slice of bread. The additional calories should come from protein and carbohydrates for cell growth, blood production and energy.

While your diet during pregnancy should always be one that contributes to your own good health, there are some additions you should make to insure the good health of your baby also. Extra calcium is important, since the baby’s growth demands a good supply of it, and if you’re not getting enough the extra will come from your own bones. Many women also need additional iron to prevent anemia.

Vitamins A, C, B6, B12 and D all play their respective roles in the health of skin, eyes, bones and teeth, and your doctor may recommend a vitamin supplement if your regular diet does not provide enough of them. However, if you’re eating dark leafy greens, carrots and sweet potatoes (vitamin A) and citrus fruits, tomatoes and broccoli (vitamin C), you’ll probably be just fine.

Whole grain cereals and bananas are good sources of vitamin B6. If you don’t eat dairy products, you will need a B12 supplement. You can get this vitamin in meat, fish and poultry as well, but probably not as much as you need during pregnancy. Vitamin D is also found in dairy products and in cereals and bread.

Another important ‘additive’ for pregnant and about-to-be pregnant women is folic acid, which has been shown to prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida. The best sources of folic acid are green leafy vegetables, beans, peas and nuts; again, a supplement may be desirable.

On the list of things to avoid during pregnancy, alcohol and caffeine are at the top. It is undeniably best for your baby if you can do without them entirely. Another item to beware of is the peanut!

In families with a history of allergies, peanuts eaten during pregnancy can leave traces in breast milk that contribute to the development of allergies in the baby. Mercury, which is most prevalent in the larger fish, can be extremely harmful, so consumption of fish should be restricted to no more than 12 ounces per week.

Ayurveda is the Indian life science which seeks to teach how to live the healthiest life achievable. It is one science that, of course, can benefit everyone. Ayurveda teaches us that every individual person possesses unique requirements for balance

The dietary aspect of ayurveda takes advantage of Indian cuisine and teaches about a number of different tastes and categories of food. To achieve a healthy balance in your diet, ayurveda tells us that we should consume meals which contain products of each type and specific taste. This way we can have an interesting and healthy diet and one that is based on an ancient science of health.

Diet is one of the most important aspects of ayurveda for achieving balance and ayurvedic healers tend to come up with specific diets based on the individual’s needs. These diets are based on a number of factors including gender and age and the strength of the body and current health.

If you wish to seek to understand and take advantage of this exceptionally powerful and ancient science, then first you need to be familiar with the fact that there are four fundamental tastes in the food of the Western World which are salty, bitter, sweet and sour. Indian foods have these plus astringent and chilly tastes.

Anyone who eats Indian food regularly will likely be familiar with the wide variety of herbs and spices that it uses in its cuisine.

There are a total of six distinct tastes in the Indian ayurvedic diet which are bitter, salty, sweet, sour, astringent and chilly. Ayurveda recommends that every main meal that you consume should contain each of these six tastes since each taste is believed to have an individual balancing effect.

For example, these effects can include the ability to help minimize cravings for certain types of foods that are not good for you. Indian food is typically optimized to use all of these tastes whereas Western food tends to focus more specifically on the sweet, salty and sour tastes.

Ayurveda basically teaches us about proper nutrition, by combining a number of different types of foods to form a balanced diet. A typical home cooked traditional Indian meal can provide you with a very healthy diet, although it is important as always to avoid the mass produced and processed goods which are all over the market today and can be hard to avoid.

Ayurveda also categorises different types of foods as light or heavy, dry or liquid and by temperature. These are known as Dosha principles to the diet. It teaches us that a healthy main meal should contain food of each type. These meals can be adapted in various ways to different circumstances such as the climate in which you live.

Many westerners have found this method highly effective in pushing away the problems caused by the heavily processed foods common in our diets and finding an alternative way to deal with the stress of modern life
