Blood Test Results that Indicate Diabetes

If your doctor feels as if you may need tested to ensure your blood sugar levels are normal, it may be a concern that there is a present threat of diabetes occurring. They will require some blood test results that indicate diabetes is present before they place you on any form of treatment or special diet.

Generally, the same test utilized to diagnose hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia is also commonly used to diagnose diabetes as well. They all have specific rules before the actual test that you must follow accordingly, such as possible fasting prior to the test or performing the test just after you have eaten a large snack or meal. The blood samples are taken and sent off to a lab for the results to be confirmed. In the event the patient does receive a clear diabetes diagnosis, they are generally asked to go through another test within a few weeks to ensure that is the accurate result. Many women that are pregnant also experience a temporary form of diabetes that is referred to as gestational diabetes. The scanning for this form of diabetes is generally performed while the expecting mother is in her third trimester, but can be performed while they are anywhere from twenty-four weeks along and up. This type of diabetes is only during pregnancy and goes away just after childbirth. The expecting mother must follow specific nutritional guidelines throughout the remaining duration of her pregnancy.

All confirmed diabetics must take their condition very seriously and keep track of their glucose levels in their blood on a daily basis. They will be ordered by their physician to endure more blood test results that indicate diabetes such as the kits that can be ordered for the patient to test their blood daily. They will have to get a blood sample each day by pricking their finger or other areas on the body and testing it through a meter specifically designed for glucose testing. Some medical facilities are not using the blood test results that indicate diabetes, and instead they are still using a urinalysis form of testing to find their patient’s results. Most physicians would prefer to test through the blood for diabetes and they can often follow through with a urine test to get the most accurate result. Always eat a healthy low fat diet when you are living with diabetes of any kind. Exercise and an active lifestyle can greatly improve the many symptoms of diabetes as well.
