It seems that the worse the food, the cheaper it gets! You may have noticed this transition on your last visit to the grocery store, or your favorite fast food joint and realized just how cheap that “bad for you food” truly is.
When we started to avoid processed food at the grocery store and begin buying more produce – one of the results was a higher grocery bill. We were willing to foot the bill at the right of our health – but what about those people who are unable to afford the extra money at the register? Here are some tips that can help you to lose weight, on a budget!
Home Made Lunch
Making lunch at home doesn’t have to be boring! When the clock strikes noon it seems that there is an innate hunger that occurs inside of your stomach. If you have a lunch prepared that is delicious, appetizing and appealing – made from fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains; chances are that you will not be tempted to walk over to your favorite fast food place and order a super-sized version of the regular meal to fill the hunger that has been building up all morning. This can save you an average of seven dollars per day, considering that you can buy healthy lunch supplies for about half that price.
Invest in a 10$ Water Bottle
Investing in a water bottle that can be re-used saves the countless dollars that you spend on the way to work, at your lunch break and even on the way home from work to buy overpriced water from the convenience store, grocery store and even on the weekends. Dieters need to drink from eight to ten glasses of water per day and toting your own bottle can allow you to fill-up for free at work, from water fountains at the mall and at home! You can lose weight while saving the environment and releasing the stress on your pocketbook!
Create Smaller Portions
Buying in bulk is absolutely cheaper than buying smaller portions. Everything from fruit and veggies to meat can be bought in bulk and separated into packages that can be used to put in lunches and have for snacks on the go during the week. For example, before I met my fiancé I would use a whole package of boneless, skinless chicken breasts to make a meal. Now, he has made me realize that one breast is enough when we use vegetables to bulk the meal up and make it healthier too!
Smaller sized freezer or sandwich bags are an important part of the weight loss program and should be used to portion everything from breads, muffins, vegetables and other snacks. As an added bonus, when food is placed in the freezer there is no chance that it will go bad before you have a chance to use it! Think of the money that can be saved from cutting your portion sizes and the inches that you can take off of your waistline.
