There is many times when we feel as if we won’t be able to survive unless we have a cheeseburger, or a slice of our favorite cake. Even the best of us give into the diet cravings while we are taking measures to watch our weight. Did you know there are many things that you can do to quell these cravings that can be so detrimental to your diet and come about so suddenly? Use these tips to fight the cravings that come up the next time you are beginning a weight loss program.
What is a craving? A craving can be defined as the sudden onset of wanting for a certain flavor, type of food or taste. Cravings can occur anytime but often occur from hunger. Feeding the body will ensure that you can begin to avoid cravings – therefore it is important to be properly nourished to avoid many types of cravings.
Stop Skipping Meals
Skipping meals is going to cause you to be hungry which can cause your food cravings to become more pronounced while leaving you susceptible to making bad food choices. When we skip meals there are physiological changes that occur within the body – such as a decrease in blood sugar which has been thought to interfere with weight loss. Looks like the next time you are skipping a meal you should think twice about it – it can cause you to gain rather than lose the extra pounds you were hoping to shed. With skipped meals comes increased hunger leaving your body susceptible to those cravings which can come about so suddenly, even more so without regular nourishment.
Fill Up On Water
Filling up on water and other low calorie health drinks is a proven effect in dealing with hunger and the cravings that become associated with the hunger. Many dieters are unaware that a body suffering from dehydration experiences the same symptoms, including increased cravings as a body that is dealing with hunger. Having a glass of water before each meal, or even before a snack can reduce the chances that later the body will require nourishment from the sudden onset of a craving.
Allow yourself to give In
Giving yourself permission to have a small amount of the food item that you are craving. One or two bites of your favorite items can lead to avoiding cravings in the future by giving yourself a taste of your favorite piece of cake, candy or salty snack. Especially when dieting, it is not helpful to deprive yourself of the foods and tastes that you enjoy.
Using these methods you can diet while enjoying smaller portions which contain fewer amounts of calories of the foods that you enjoy.
