Is The Three Hour Diet Effective?

3hourdietMost people have probably heard of the Three Hour Diet plan. It is a pretty well known plan that that many people have used to lose weight.  While the following brief description may be over simplifying things, I’m going to give you the basics. Essentially, a person that follows the Three Hour Diet is required to eat every three hours. Eating this way is believed to help individuals curb their appetite and keep their blood sugar stabilized.  This gives people more energy, keeps them more mentally focused and helps them lose weight. One benefit of the diet plan is that it’s supposed to be able to lower the amount of cortisol that one’s body manufacturers. Cortisol can cause individuals to develop fat around their abdomen and is the cause for more many “jelly bellies.â€

 

One of the other advantages of the Three Hour Diet is that just about food can be consumed. None are off limits. Instead, it is more about portion control.  This can be really great for many dieters because it doesn’t require them to significantly or drastically cut back on the types of foods that they are used to eating and enjoy.

 

Besides portion control, there are some caveats of the diet that must understood and followed. Individuals are supposed to consume breakfast within the first hour of waking up. They then need to eat a small meal every three hours for the rest of the day.  It is also important to not eat three hours prior to retiring for the night.

 

Eating this way is supposed to make the metabolism much more effective, should decrease one’s appetite and give them much more energy.  The plan has been successful for many people although there is some a discussion and disagreement over why this is the case. It is a pretty well universally accepted that eating small, well-balanced meals throughout the day is better than waiting and eating three large ones. However, a major component of the diet plan isn’t just about when one eats but how much one eats. Portion control is key in this plan.

 

What should be eaten at each meal is also of utmost importance. The amount of protein that should be eaten at each meal needs to be about 3 ounces or about size of a deck of cards. Persons should consume very little fat, approximately 1 teaspoon at every meal. They also need to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Each meal and snack should be around 400 calories. As you can see these are small meals, much smaller than most Americans are used to eating at any given time.

 

The Three Hour diet is one of the newer ones to hit the weight loss market, though it has been around for a few years.  It has been pretty effective for a good number of people and works because it focuses on portion control and not cutting out food groups. Thus, it is easier for people to stick too.  Also, by eating every few hours, persons are able to stabilize their blood sugar which helps keeps them from becoming hungry and possibly overeating and/or binging.
