Overeating can become a troublesome habit that can lead to an increased amount of calories being ingested as well as leading to excess weight, especially around the midsection where it is the most dangerous. To stop overeating, a combination of physiological and psychological processes must occur.
Here are some tips that you can use to avoid overeating and get on the road to a healthier lifestyle:
1. Use smaller plates. When you use smaller plates it has the ability to trick the brain into thinking that you are eating larger portions. Many people have been able to lose anywhere from ten to fifty pounds by simply reducing the size of their plate through meals and snacks.
2. Eat an apple before every meal. The apple can reduce the food that is eaten through the meal as it can cause you to feel fuller than you would before starting the meal without the apple.
3. Watch your water. Ensuring that you drink enough water with the meal, or even drinking a glass of water before the meal is consumed can reduce the amount of food that is eaten throughout the meal. Ensuring that you drink enough water is not only a way to reduce the food that you eat but also to increase the amount of weight which is lost.
4. Portion items the moment that you bring them home from the grocery store. Divide items into bags and allow yourself only one of these portions at a time.
5. Choose fruit and other healthy snacks if you still feel hungry after you have been eating. Although you can be hungry after the meal has been finished – choosing the right food after the meal to snack on can lead to a reduction in the amount of food and calories that are eaten throughout the day.
6. Learn about the associations that can trigger the overeating symptoms. Sometimes, emotions can come in the way of foods and lead to overeating.
7. Eat smaller meals. Rather than consuming to two three large meals throughout the day consider taking in four to six meals throughout the day that are smaller in calories. These smaller meals can lead to the dieter feeling satisfied longer, even though smaller amounts have been consumed.
8. Allow yourself to indulge in small portions of your favorite treats. It is important to allow yourself to have these small treats otherwise it can lead to binging when the items have been completely removed from the diet. Control your portions and you can literally have anything that you want!
9. Find alternatives to foods that you commonly find yourself binging on. If you are a chocolate lover consider low fat chocolate milk, dark chocolate and other healthy and low calorie chocolate treats. These alternatives will have fewer calories and become more satisfying.
10. Talk about it. Join a support group that can give you help with your overeating tendencies. This way, you can learn tips to deal with the situations and meet with people with the same issues.
