Most people will eventually gain a few extra pounds. It’s inevitable. Age, the holidays, good food and life all have a way of taking their toll. As a result, we end up a little (or a lot) heavier and rounder in places that we would prefer not to be. Wanting to take some sort of action before we become unrecognizable to our selves, family and friends, we look for methods to help us slim down and shape up. Along the way, there will be some that seem pretty reasonable. There will also be a few that are absolutely crazy and border line dangerous. Below, I am going to list the top 5 most ridiculous weight loss techniques. You may have a few in mind that did not make the list. If so, please feel free to share them. Simply leave a comment at the end of this post. That way everyone can get a really good laugh.Â
1. The Maple Syrup Diet
This one sounds pretty gross. The idea of downing thick, maple syrup is not appealing at all. However, some people swear that it works. It has been rumored that this is the diet that Beyonce used to slim down for her starring role in the movie Dreamgirls.Â
This fast involves drinking a concoction of maple syrup, cayenne pepper, lemon juice and water. This mixture should be consumed at least 6 times a day.Â
2. The Egg Diet
The Egg Diet was created based on the Atkins Diet premise that protein is good and carbs are bad. Dieters are encouraged to eat as many eggs that they can. They are also allowed to consume unlimited quantities of meat and cheese.Â
Not only is this incredibly restrictive, it is also dangerous if you suffer from high cholesterol. While carbs have been given a bad rap, they really are very necessary. The body needs carbs to thrive and also to burn fat.
3. The Liquid Diet
If you have been a long time Oprah fan you may remember the episode where she rolled out a cart full of lard equivalent to the amount of fat that she lost while on a liquid diet. If you listened to her follow up, you would have learned that she started to gain the weight back the very next day when she started eating real food again.
The moral of the story is that restricting yourself to only liquids will never work long term because eventually you have to eat food. When you do, you will not only gain back the weight that you lost but probably a few extra pounds.
4. The Baby Food Diet
The Baby Food Diet involves you eating baby food in place of meals and snacks. Because these foods are just pureed versions of the real ones, they are pretty healthy. However, eating baby food would probably turn off even the most hard core dieter.Â
5. The Alcohol Diet
I’m not too sure who came up with this one, maybe a fraternity guy or an alcoholic. It works like this; you simply drink booze and not eat. While this is not only dangerous, it does not work. Alcohol has a lot of carbs and depending on what and how much you drink, a lot of calories. It should go without saying that this is a ridiculous weight loss technique and should not be utilized by anyone!
