Dangerous Diet Pill Ingredients

January 16, 2009

ql3isbs3Unfortunately, there is a large percentage of the population which spends thousands of dollars per year on diet pills and weight loss supplements. These consumers are for the most part seeking the easy way out, the key to weight loss in a bottle but are not putting forth the diet and exercise portion of the weight loss formula. It is important to know the ingredients which are in the diet pills – therefore you can determine the potentially harmful ingredients, and distinguish the safe ingredients. Here is a guide to which ingredients should be avoided in diet pills to keep the body from harm.

Ephedra
Ephedra is a diet and weight loss supplement ingredient that we are most familiar with. It contains harmful and sometimes potentially fatal side effects. Ephedra decreases the appetite and increases the metabolism – sometimes creating a dangerous combination for its users. Ephedra comes with many side effects, such as; increasing the heart rate, increasing the blood pressure, disturbing sleep patterns, seizures, heart attacks and strokes.

You may be wondering why ephedra is being mentioned, as it is banned from marketplaces because of the likelihood of  adverse side effects occurring, but the product is still sold internationally and is available on the internet. There are many teas which contain ephedra which can be as harmful as the supplements itself and should be avoided.

Bitter orange
Bitter orange is known to those familiar with weight loss supplements as an alternative to ephedra. It can have the same effects on the body and increases the amount of calories that the body is able to burn. There has been little research on the long term side effects of this supplement ingredient but it has also been banned from the marketplace because of the potential risk of side effects developing that are similar to ephedra.

Symptoms may include dizziness, increased heart rate and blood pressure which can lead to heart attack, stroke or even death. It is important to avoid this ingredient, although it is natural in any diet pills that are being obtained from the internet, or internationally.

High Levels of Caffeine
Diet pills and weight loss supplements that contain high levels of caffeine can have powerful effects on the body. When the body is exposed to high levels of caffeine, which are considered to be more than 300 mg per day, you are at an increased risk to develop high blood pressure which can lead to a heart attack or stroke.

Caffeine is used in many weight loss supplements to make up for the energy that is lost when we are failing to nourish the body. Caffeine speeds the heart rate to create an unfavorable environment and could allow things to go wrong within the body.
