resistanceMany hardcore fitness buffs have shunned the use of resistance bands. At least this was initially the case. There was some feelings that they weren’t able to give persons a challenging enough workout or build muscle. The initial skepticism and negativity associated with resistance bands is beginning to wane.  Very recently, a famous NFL player, Terrell Owens came out with his own brand of bands which are targeted to just about everyone including muscular men who typically rely on free weights to build and maintain their muscle.

 

One reason that people stay away from resistance bands or are at least wary of them is because that they are different then what they are used to. Many people go to the gym and use free weights or the exercise machines and subsequently, they’re just not sure about resistance bands.

 

People that have used the bands have been able to see firsthand how challenging a workout they can create and how they can aid in quickly toning the body. Resistance bands are a real alternative to free weights. This is especially true if you are looking to burn fat and build lean muscle.

 

Another knock on resistance bands is that they don’t provide individuals with as tough a workout as they might get from machines or free weights. While they may not be able to duplicate a bodybuilder’s workout they are just fine for the average person and even for those who are already in pretty good shape.

 

Now that we have discussed what some people view as the negatives of using resistance bands, let’s discuss the positives. There are quite a few benefits to using resistance bands. The first is that you can use them in the comfort of your own home.  You don’t have to buy a gym membership or leave your bedroom if you don’t want to. You can workout at home along with exercise tapes or on your own.

 

Resistance bands also pack very well. If you are a person who travels a lot, you will be able to get your exercise in even on the road.

 

Many fitness experts extol the benefits of changing up your routine every couple of months. This is because the body gets used to a regimen and it starts to burn calories less effectively.  Therefore, the use of resistance bands is one way to change up one’s exercise plan and keep the body on edge so that it continues to burn calories at a high rate during a workout.

 

Resistance bands are also very affordable. They can be purchased for as little as $10 at one’s local Wal-Mart. Lastly, they work! They can help individuals tone their muscles and get in shape.  If they are combined with some type of cardiovascular and/or aerobic exercise, they will be able to increase their fitness levels and also improves the muscle tone and shape of one’s body.

 

There has been some resistance to using resistance bands (excuse the pun).  Most times the negativity surrounding this exercise equipment is generally due to a lack of knowledge and/or experience with the product. However, they do have a lot of benefits.  They are cheap, they’re convenient and they do work to help burn calories and tone the body. Unless a person has a lot of experience using them already, they may need to purchase exercise tapes that provide various exercises and workout plans.
