Why Interval Training Burns More Fat

Interval TrainingInterval training is one of the best ways to burn fat quickly and also shorten the amount of time that it takes for you to get in shape. Interval training works better then jogging at a consistent speed for an equal amount of time. There is no doubt that jogging is a very good exercise and can be very effective when it comes to weight loss and getting in shape. However, many diet experts believe that interval training is superior in these areas.

A study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that after a workout session that included interval training, individuals were able to burn more then 36% more fat then those that cycled for the same amount of time at the same speed. They were also able to get in shape faster.

Interval training is a mixture of short explosive or speedy bursts and movements that are more moderate. Fore example, a person may sprint for a minute and then walk for 90 seconds or a person may walk for a period and then alternate that with some jogging. The point is to mix things up and alternate between lower and higher intensity movements.

It is important to note that interval training may not translate into immediate weight loss. You may not be able to get rid of all of the weight that you need to lose in only a few days. Instead, it is important that you watch your diet and consume a healthy and balanced one. You also need to mix in some of your traditional aerobic exercises such as jogging and swimming. If you mix in these types of exercises with interval training, you should be able to burn a substantial amount of fat and shape up much faster.

Interval training may sound complicated but it isn’t. In fact, it is simply a fancy way to describe alternating speeds when working out. You can perform these types of exercises on the treadmill, elliptical machine, at your local track or in your neighborhood. You can also come up with your own workout.

For example, if you wanted to do this type of training in your neighborhood, you could jog for 30 seconds and then walk for 60 seconds. Then simply alternate this for about 30 minutes. On the treadmill, you may want to not only alternate speeds but also the incline levels. You will benefit a great deal physically from these constant changes in pace.

Interval training is also great for persons that are looking to get in shape. Because you get to take a break (because you get to alternate your speed), you can work out longer and hang in there much more easily because you do get an opportunity to rest.   Interval training allows you to slowly get in shape.

Once you improve your fitness levels you can go longer during the speed portion of your interval training and shorten the walking or resting phase. If you keep up with this type of training and combine it with other types of aerobic exercise and consume a balanced, responsible diet, you should experience excellent results sooner rather then later.
