Most things are more fun when they are not done alone. This includes dieting and working out. It can be quite difficult to get motivated to eat healthy and follow a workout plan by our selves. We have often developed eating and exercising habits that can difficult to break on our own. It is much easier to begin a diet and stay on track when you have someone to help encourage you and keep you accountable.
The support of another person can also help keep you going when you are tempted to give up. Not going at it alone also allows you to learn from others and pool your will power. It is much more fun (if you can ever call dieting fun) to lose weight when you are doing it with someone else. Seeing results and losing weight can also be quite exciting and even more so when you can celebrate it with someone else who is going through it with you.
Having a partner can also help keep you accountable. Many people give up on their diet and exercise plans when the cravings for unhealthy food and snacks get overwhelming and when you get bored (or sore) with exercising. Being able to call someone up or have them question you about what you are putting in your mouth each day, can cause you to re-think picking up that donut or skipping that workout.
Having someone in the “weight loss trenches” with you also provides you a source of moral support that you can’t generate on your own. Being able to reciprocate this encouragement and support will also help you feel good and much more responsible to sticking with the plan yourself.
“Buddying up” gives you an opportunity to learn from each other. One person may be really disciplined when it comes to exercise while another person may be able to create delicious and low fat meals. Each person can share what they know and thus strengthen the other. You’ve likely heard the old adage “two heads are better then one.” This is true. Everyone has different strengths, skills and abilities. Being able to utilize and learn from each other can make dieting and exercising much more effective.
Being able to pool will power is another benefit of working together with others. When one person gets down, the other person can encourage them. When one party wants to quit, someone else can step in and try to convince them to keep going. Those cookies, cakes and salty foods will eventually become tempting. Knowing that other people are pulling for you can help you say no and stay on your diet.
“Buddying up” or starting a diet and exercise plan with others can be quite beneficial. It can help keep you on track, accountable and provides a measure of support that you can’t achieve on your own. You can also learn from other people and pool each other’s will power. All of these things give you a greater chance of sticking to your diet and exercise plan which will enable you to lose the weight that you desire.
