One of the very best, most effective and cheapest weight loss “supplements” that is readily available but which many people overlook is water. It can be found in nearly every kitchen in the United States but is still under consumed. Water is vital to weight loss. However, many people overlook its benefits mostly because they just don’t understand how water affects the body.
Most people do not drink enough water and this is due to varying reasons. One of the most noted is that water has no taste. People often prefer sugary, flavorful drinks such as soda and juice. However, unless they are drinking 100% juice, they really are not getting much benefit. In fact, consuming them only makes it more difficult to lose weight. Sure, soda and juice tastes good, but both are mostly made up of sugar and are empty calories.
Water is extremely important to the overall health of the body and also for weight loss. It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to lose weight or maintain the weight that you are currently at, water is important in both cases and can help support your efforts.
Our bodies are made up mostly of water (60-70%). Water has a lot of different functions all of them related to keeping us healthy, regular and alive. Besides the very basics, water also helps us digest and absorb food. If you are not drinking enough water, not only will you be unable to get the proper nutrients that you need from the food you eat, but your organs won’t be able to work efficiently either. As a result, you will have a much more difficult time losing weight.
Water helps to flush waste and toxins from the body. When you fail to drink enough, constipation is often the result. This makes it harder for the kidneys to work. When any of the organs in your body become under stress or over worked, the other ones have to step in and help. This means that they are not able to function at their own full capacity and as a result, things like metabolizing fat and calories slows down. This is because attention has to be paid to the organs that need help due to a lack of water.
As it relates directly to weight loss, when you drink enough water you don’t want to eat as much. In this way, water acts as an appetite suppressant and can prevent you from eating too much. Many times when we think we are hungry, our bodies actually need water. Therefore, the first thing that you need to do when you experience hunger pains is to grab a glass of water. You may find that you are satisfied after drinking it. If you mistakenly believe that you are hungry when you are in fact hungry, you will end up over eating. In these instances, your body doesn’t necessarily need more food but water.
Most people need to drink about 6-8 glasses of water every day. This consumption should be spread out throughout the day so that you do not spend an abundance of time in the restroom . If you find that you simply don’t enjoy the taste or lack thereof, of water, you may want to add a little lemon. There are also powders on the market that have zero or low calories that you can add to make water more flavorful.
If you are not sure whether or not you’re drinking enough water, look for the following symptoms: difficulty concentrating, feeling tired, hard stools or the inability to have bowel movements, urine that is dark or odorous, bad breath or breakouts. If you find that you are suffering from any of these symptoms, it is very important that you increase your water intake. Not only will it make you feel better but it will help you lose more weight.
