Most people are safe in the belief that a diet is a method of achieving weight loss. However, it is clear that some diets are targeted toward improving health or addressing specific health problems.
It is also clear that some diets that seek to achieve several targets, where weight loss is a by-product. Some examples of this have been proposed by Dr. Nicholas Perricone, who has dedicated much of his professional life to finding ways to use the body’s natural chemicals to get better.
The main thrust is the idea that our cell inflammation is at the root of most all health concerns and that this includes being overweight. The aim is to overcome or limit inflammation thereby returning health to a normal state.
Weight loss can be achieved by a variety of different diets, reducing quantities, reducing calories, reducing fats, reducing carbohydrates, exercise, improving fruit and vegetable intake and so on.
However, depending on the precise mix of foods, the Perricone diet aims to work on other aspects of health, for example, raising metabolic rate, improving skin tone and addressing inflammation. There are a good number of variations but here is a small selection of examples.
The Perricone Acne diet flies in the face of skin experts by insisting that there is a connection between acne and certain inflammatory problems. For example, while fruit and vegetables are generally anti-inflammatory, bananas (which are sweet and energy supplying), for example, may bring out the spots.
The prescription diet may be so-called because it prescribes a lifestyle change, one that limits saturated fats, sugars and other carbohydrates, increases lean proteins and green vegetables and, perhaps most importantly, encourages exercise. These foods serve to increase the metabolism, help cell regeneration (which, in turn, improves skin tone), and leads to weight loss.
The wrinkle diet is similar in several ways to the Prescription diet in that it is intended to not only help lose visible wrinkles but also to discourage the development of new ones. This diet is rich in the fish oils (like omega 3) to be found in salmon, in compound vitamins, and fatty acids.
The weight loss diet combines many of the features of the others mentioned. Salmon is the central pillar of this diet and, as with many of others, fruit and vegetables are prevalent.
You may have noticed that salmon is recommended quite often in these programs but salmon is not the only source of Omega 3 fish oils. Several readily available types of fish also contain Omega 3 but, if you prefer, they can be bought from a health food store.
Superfoods (a questionable term) should be included whenever possible, extending to, fruits, spices, hot peppers, nuts, seeds, peas, probiotic dairy foods, vegetables, and grains. Each one of these is a very important element in a healthy eating regime and you will improve your overall health if you follow the regime properly.
