toxins There has been much talk in recent years regarding a possible connection between toxin build up in the body and weight gain. Some people believe that high levels of toxins can make it hard for the body to function normally and conducive for weight loss.  Supporters of the “toxicity weight gain theory” believe that the only way to counteract this damage is to reduce the toxins in one’s body. The obvious way to achieve this is to go on a detox diet.

Toxins that end up in our bodies come from a number of different places. They may come from the environment, food, medications and water. While we well always have toxins in our systems because we live on planet earth, when our body begins to accumulate too many of them, we can get in trouble. Low levels of toxic are tolerated pretty well. However, there comes a point where they begin to poison our systems.

Well, it makes sense that too much toxicity is bad for your overall health and can even be potentially deadly (due to chronic disease). However, you may be wondering what toxins have to do with weight gain. I was too and so I begin to do some research. I found that part of the job of fat is to keep toxins away from the sensitive parts of our bodies. As toxin levels in our bodies increase, many times so does fat. The fat is trying to keep up in order to protect us from harm.

The most obvious way to deal with toxin overload is to detox the body. This can often be done with a detoxification diet. Now, you don’t have to go out and spend lots of money of special systems, pills or powders. Instead, you can accomplish this simply by only drinking lots of water, eating plenty of vegetables and fruits for 2-3 days. The benefits of this will be twofold. You will be able to help cleanse out your system and also likely lose a pound or two. This will be due to the decreased amount of calories taken in during your “cleansing.”

There is some debate regarding toxins and weight gain. You have some groups that really believe that there is a correlation while others think that talk of toxins and detoxification is a bunch of nonsense.

The issue is very debatable. However, it makes sense that we can experience toxic overload. There are toxins everywhere including the food that we eat, the water that we drink and the air that we breathe. Taking a few days and keeping a strict eye on what we eat can really make a huge difference. If nothing less, we will likely feel better and more energized because we are filling our bodies with healthy food. This can go along way as it concerns mood, weight loss and overall feelings of health.
