A Guide to Low Carb Foods

Low carb foods are essential to any diet if a person wants to control their weight. Foods low in carbohydrates have many benefits to people who want to lose we Here is a guide to each of the low carb foods within the food pyramid.

Grains Group

There are not many grains that are compatible with  the low carb lifestyle.   Corn, soybeans, oat bran, and barley are a possibility.

Vegetable Group

Green leafy vegetables like kale, spinach, chard and collards are the best low carb foods for anyone. They can be eaten with almost anything and they taste great. Here are some green and non green veggies that are low carb:

Olives, Spinach, Lettuce, Beans, Collards, Kale, Basil, Parsley, Celery and Radishes  

It does not take much for these veggies to be pulled together with some meat for a delicious meal.

Fruit Group

Most fruits fit with the low carb lifestyle. You can have almost any fruit you want.  Berries are the best fruit of all. They have a low amount of sugar which means less carbs. Melons are also a great Fruit for the carb conscious person to eat.  Apples, Nectarines and Peaches are great as well

Oil Group

There are very few oils you can safely intake if you are opting for the low carn lifestyle.  Some that you can intake are cocnut oil, olive oil, fish oil and advocado oil.  There are many types of oils that can be used that come from seeds.

Milk, Yogurt, and Cheese Group

Soy milk is the best milk to drink overall. However, there is low carb milk in some grocery stores. 

Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs, and Nuts Group

Since meat is so high in protein and low in carbohyrrates, this makes it one of the best foods to intake. If you want to stay full after eating your low carb fruits and veggies, you should eat lots of meat. Almost any kind of meat will do. You can eat salmon, tuna,  and swordfish if you like fish. You can eat as much chicken as you want if you are a chicken lover. You can eat beef and pork as well. Fish is probably the best overall choice due to the high amount of Omega 3 fatty acids.  Beans and nuts are great options for the low carb eater that opts to be a vegetarian.  Eggs are a good food choice as well.
