They are far more likely to go for the snacks that have extra sugar, far and sodium rather than opting for a healthy snack of fruits for example. Parents, however, can help their children by offering healthy snacks which require minimal preparation and can be delicious too. Some examples are detailed below.

Vegetables with dips are something that are potentially very popular amongst teenagers. They love chips and nachos with dips, so why not replace the chips with freshly cut vegetables. Slices of celery or carrots are some good options but the possibilities are virtually endless, allowing even the fussiest eaters to find something they like.

Pretzels, but of the whole-wheat kind, are also another good option since they will help to add the much needed fibre to a teenager’s diet. This is important for a healthily functioning digestive system and few teenagers get as much as they should have. Remember, however, that most normal pretzels have much of the fibre removed being made of over-processed flour.

Grapes are another great option. Purchasing a pack of seedless grapes does not cost much and they provide a great deal of much needed vitamins. They can also be frozen inside freezer bags and then consumed straight from the freezer since they will have developed a popsicle-type texture and will taste just as sweet as anything.

Peanut butter, when accompanied by healthy, good quality whole-grain bread another very good, and delicious option that will be attractive to most teenagers. Fruit spread is another option, and much more preferable to the high amount of sugars, preservatives and syrups in most jars of jam.

There are many options for having a healthy diet for your teenager and there are a lot of things you can produce yourself without too much effort, such as homemade Granola bars which will not contain all the junk that the ones you buy from the shop do.

Try also making some fruit smoothies since they are far healthier than the milkshakes that teenagers often like. Frozen bananas are a good option for this. Smoothies are healthy and fun and easy to make. All you need is a decent blender, some low-fat milk, a tiny bit of vanilla extract and the fruit of your choice.

Plain, natural yogurt is another healthy option, but on its own it can be pretty boring. Adding some berries or cereal flakes etc., is a great and straightforward way of making it much more exciting.

Drinking healthily is also essential and it is a good idea to stock up on things like low-fat milk, vegetable and fruit juices with 100% fruit content or even just cold mineral water which you can add sliced lemon and lime to make it a bit more interesting.

Eating healthily, however, does not necessarily mean you cannot have a single chocolate bar or packet of chips once in a while, however, this should be avoided on an excessive level. Buying single chocolate bars occasionally is far more advisable than buy a discount multipack, since these things should be considered treats, not a part of a diet.
