Beating Diet Depression And Frustration

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

beating-diet-depression-and-frustrationThere are numerous diets, many of which claim to be the next big miracle way of losing several dress sizes. From high carbohydrates to cutting them out, then there is calorie counting and a multitude linked to celebrities and various other endorsers.

On top of that, there are slimming pills, herbal remedies and even hypnosis. Everyone jumps on the bandwagon because so many people want the easy option. However the only real way of losing weight gradually and healthily is to reduce your calorie intake. The best way to do this is with a combination of a good balanced diet and regular exercise.

In nearly all other cases a diet may well help you lose weight, sometimes very many pounds but after a short space of time it will become too difficult to continue. If it is too drastic you will start to crave certain foods and then become depressed and fed up. Temptation will be all around you and become harder to resist.

Eventually you will crack, promising yourself that the diet can start again tomorrow. But it never does, the pounds pile back on and then you are back to square one. Only you will feel a sense of failure because you were weak and couldn’t stick at it.
Some people can spend a lifetime on assorted diets with their weight fluctuating wildly. This is not good for the body and eventually it will take its toll, both mentally and physically.

It is hard if you feel overweight and your friends are all super slim, your self esteem will lower and you will start to feel unhappy. Unfortunately certain people are naturally thin and can eat anything and everything and not put on weight, that’s just life.

The first thing to consider is to increase the amount of calories that you burn up every day. Walking is not only relaxing but a great way to take regular exercise. If you don’t want to walk alone, arrange to go with a friend or neighbor. There are many alternatives so try different things until you find something you enjoy.

The secret is to include it in your routine or if it is a weekly more energetic sport for example badminton then it must be fun. Dragging yourself reluctantly to a gym will last only a few sessions before it will feel like a dentist appointment.
As for diet, eat regular meals and try to change to more healthy options. Grill instead of fry and try serving smaller portions. Swop a fattening pudding for a piece of fruit, cut out sodas and drink lots of water. If you love chocolate or crisps then have them as an occasional treat. Eat plenty of vegetables and cur down on the amount of processed food you eat.

Try to eat more fish especially oily as it is very good for the body. If you eat regular meals you will feel less like snacking. Reduce the fat you consume, like cheese and other dairy products. Change to skimmed milk and cut down on the sugar you take in tea or coffee.

Do You Need A Diet or Just A Lifestyle Change?

exercise2Diets and weight loss supplements are extremely popular. Both industries are billion dollar ones and with good reason. Millions of us could stand to lose a few pounds, many, more then a few. In fact, in the United States, we are heavier then we have ever been and this isn’t just adults but kids and teenagers as well. In an effort to lose the weight, many of us turn to diets. Many people have become lifetime or yo-yo dieters. Perhaps what is needed is not another diet but simply education on what foods to eat and which ones to avoid, essentially, leaning how to lead healthy lives without a ton of restrictions and cutting out of food groups. These types of eating plans (restrictive) are impossible to keep up and often times rob us of important nutrients.

Now, don’t get me wrong, sometimes a diet is needed. If you are severely overweight and need to lose weight quickly for health reasons, then following a proven and healthy weight loss plan might be just what you need. If you want to lose 10-15 pounds pretty quickly as motivation to lose even more weight, then a diet plan can help you accomplish this. However, once you are off of the diet plan, you run the risk of gaining the weight back. In order to have lasting weight loss, you must learn how to eat properly and adhere to a reasonable and balanced eating plan. Exercising is important as well.

The benefits of learning to eat right are many. When you figure out what you should be you eating, you don’t have to worry about cutting way back on your caloric intake in order to lose weight. If you understand that correct portions of lean proteins, vegetables, fruit and whole grains are good for you, you do not have to worry about going on a no carbohydrate diet or consuming very little calories. Not too many people (adults) can live on minimal calories for the rest of their life. Not only is this hard to stick to but it is also draining. Adult bodies need more then 1000-1200 calories (typical caloric amount for a low cal diet plan) a day to function. More calories are needed so that they have enough energy to handle their daily activities.

Learning to eat right versus going on a diet is often times much healthier as well. This is because the former typically involves you getting to eat little bit of everything. Nothing is cut out so you are able to get all of the nutrients that you need. Eating from each of the food groups without placing anything off limits cuts down on binging as well.

When you make lifestyle changes instead of dieting, it is easier to keep the weight off. Anyone that has ever gone on a diet understands that it simply is not possible to stay on one forever. For some people, staying on a diet for more then 3-4 days is a chore. This is why many people constantly start and stop diets. They are difficult to stick to. Instead, when individuals learn to eat right and incorporate good eating principles into their diets, they do not have to worry about sticking to a particular plan.

5 Clues You Are Not Ready to Start A Diet

Monday, March 9th, 2009

dietmentalMost people at some time or another will need to go on a diet. It is seemingly inevitable. As we age, it is harder to keep the pounds off. If in our younger years, we indulged in unhealthy foods, even it we were able to keep the pounds off back then, we won’t be able to forever. To get back to an acceptable weight, a good diet plan may be in order. However, even the best weight loss plans won’t work if we are not ready to adhere to one. Here are 5 clues that you aren’t in the right mindset to start a diet. If you find like these things describe you, it may be necessary to  do some emotional or psychological work before you begin.

You have a pantry full of cookies and aren’t ready to part with them: If you are serious about wanting to lose weight, you have to be willing to get rid of all foods that will sabotage your efforts. Having lots of sweets, salty and fattening snacks and foods in your house will decrease your chances of success.

You haven’t decided if you really believe in all this dieting stuff: Some people hold off on taking action by refusing to make a decision one way or another. While it is much better to adopt a healthy lifestyle instead of going on a diet, a good weight loss plan can be quite beneficial in getting you on the right path.

Your will power is as strong as a wet noodle: If you are at a point in your life where you know that you won’t be able to stick to a diet, it’s best to wait until you are ready. Otherwise, you will be wasting your time, effort and money.

You have narrowed your diet plan options to 10 potentials: Before you go forward, you will need to settle on a weight loss plan. It is not important that you choose in a hurry, just that you find a plan that you like and will be able to stick to.

Your idea of suffering for beauty (or health) consists of having one piece of pie instead of two: You need to be ready to exhibit some will power if you are going to successfully lose weight. If it will be too much to get rid of all your bad eating habits at once, try getting rid of one vice at a time.

In order to lose weight, you have to be in the right frame of mind. Losing weight is more then just about buying the right foods. If you are not emotionally or psychologically ready to lose weight, nothing is stopping you from heading to the grocery store and stocking up on junk food. The only thing preventing you from doing this will be your commitment and your readiness to lose the weight. It may take some effort for you to get to the point where you are mentally ready to start a weight loss plan and stick to it. It may require some introspection and very likely a concerted effort. However, if you can figure out why it is so difficult for you to become disciplined in this area, you may finally reach the breakthrough that you need to get rid of those unwanted pounds.
