The Lemonade Diet – I Lost 11 Lbs… But Was It Worth It?

Friday, February 6th, 2009

288113_f260After succumbing to the quick fix promises of the master cleanse diet – I had decided to give it a try as my pants were a little tighter than they used to be. I planned to complete the diet for one week, just enough time to lose five to ten pounds (temporarily, I know) of weight that was making it difficult to move in my favorite skinny jeans!

For those of you that are unfamiliar with the master cleanse diet, it is also referred to as the lemonade diet and the maple syrup diet. These names all have to do with the components of the diet which include water, organic maple syrup, cayenne pepper and lemon juice which are combined to make the drink which I was going to live on for the next week.

The ingredients were easy enough to track down. It was a little more difficult to find the organic and natural maple syrup that the diet plan recommended, but while at the health food store I picked up a multi vitamin to keep healthy while taking part in the diet plan.

Through the first morning of the diet I was fine. Of course, when lunchtime came I was looking over at my co-workers food with envy, wanting to give up on the diet and the easy weight loss that it allowed. Overcome with energy, which I thought was strange, I decided to go for a walk to ease the hunger.

At the end of the day I had gone through four large reusable water bottles of the concoction. Many wonder about the taste of the diet drink, well – it is not something that you would drink for pleasure… Let me tell you that. I was happy to jump in bed the first night and dream of all of the foods that I was missing out on.

Weighing yourself daily is detrimental; therefore, I decided to weigh myself only when I had completed the term. Over the course of day two through four of the diet I was miserable. It could have been because of the headaches that I was experiencing, or the fact that I lacked the energy to exercise. Either way, I was bound and determined to make it to the end of the seven days.

Day five, I cracked – I had a salad made from lettuce and cucumbers with fat free salad dressing. I don’t know how this was going to impact my weight loss – but I was unable to go without food any longer. Considering that the nutritional value and calories in this food was very low, I thought that it might be fine.

The next two days I surrounded myself with the drink and the motivation that Beyonce had lost over twenty pounds following the diet. Finally, on the seventh day I decided to weigh myself in the morning as it is recommended that you do so with all diet plans. I was pleasantly surprised that I had lost eleven pounds.

The numbers may have shown on the scale but the state of my body and the realization that the weight would return as soon as I finished the diet plan were enough to make swear off fad diets in the future.

41nzy6qmg9l__aa280_The master cleanse has been popularized by celebrities like Beyonce who have used the crash diet to lose up to twenty pounds at a time. This all liquid diet has many side effects on the health and can cause significant weight loss – most of which is water. Many dieters have heard of the master cleanse diet program in passing but have never thought of undertaking such a strict diet program.

The master cleanse diet has many names; the maple syrup diet and the lemonade diet are two of the most common names. The advocates of the diet ensure that the fast can abolish cravings from the eating routine while cleansing the body of all toxins and harmful components which become lodged in the digestive system.

What types of toxins are removed from the body when the dieter choose to undertake the master cleanse program? Hormones, pesticides, prescription drugs and heavy metals – as well as parasites are removed from the body throughout the ten days of the master cleanse. How does this impact weight loss? Weight loss is inhibited when the body is filled with hormones and other parasites. The digestive system must be in the best possible shape to embrace the weight loss and the lifestyle changes that come with it.

There are many benefits that can be seen within days of beginning the strict diet regimen. Aside from the low cost of diet supplies and herbal weight loss supplements many patients experience increased digestive function as the majority of toxins are being released from the body.

The master cleanse diet is a ten day program which allows the dieter to release all toxins from their body with the use of a liquid diet, herbal laxatives and vitamins are received through the  combination of lemons, water, cayenne pepper and natural maple syrup.

This concoction may sound unappealing to most, but the weight loss that comes with the cleansing program can cause dieters to overcome the horrid taste of the mixture.

There are many symptoms that come from the master cleanse diet procedure. The patient can experience malnutrition, as there is no solid food or nutrients being introduced to the diet for a period of up to ten days. Dieters that undertake the diet for a period longer than ten days can put their body at risk for developing many damages and vitamin and nutrient deficiencies. Dizziness can occur because of the lack of nutrients which are being absorbed into the body which can lead to fainting and other disorders. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms it is important to stop the diet immediately.

Some dieters have undertaken the master cleanse diet for as much as forty-five days. Throughout this extended diet there is an increased risk of developing a serious case of malnutrition. If you are looking for a way to cleanse your body and lose up to ten pounds in the run of the ten days than it may be worth it to try the master cleanse diet.
