Have you wondered if the ability say no had anything to do with your gender? Apparently, a new study has found that women are indeed in for a tougher time when it comes to resisting junk food and other foods laden with refined sugar. There are many speculations for this research which has recently been conducted – and is going to be under continued scrutiny in the future.
Women are more likely to continue eating, despite signs from the brain that they are indeed becoming full. Experts have speculated that this could have something to do with biological child bearing hormones and the wives tale that causes women to feel compelled that they are eating for two throughout their child bearing years.
Interestingly enough, it has been proven that the old wives tale of “eating for two” is indeed false. Doctors recommend that a maximum of three to five hundred calories per day be eaten above the guidelines which are set by body mass index and the food guide. These calories should be taken in as healthy food like fruit, whole grains and cereals.
Women are being faced with decision that may include eating more than their recommended intake. We are living in times when obesity has become rampant, with quick fixes and measures available from the pharmacy, doctor’s office and even on the internet people have simply stopped caring about the food that we are consuming on a regular basis.
The study that has been completed was taken from ten men and thirteen women. These participants were asked about their favorite foods and were presented with these foods while being allowed to taste and smell the foods but not eat the dishes. Over the course of twenty hours these subjects were presented with their favorite foods from ice cream to fried chicken – followed by a brain scan to see the effects of the food presentation on the brain.
Although both sexes were acting as if they were less hungry from the experience; there were some interesting results – the women in the study had activity in the brain which was comparable to the women still being hungry despite the activities that had just been completed. Although the men and women were using techniques to inhibit hunger, the women still presented signs of hunger. It looks like there truly is a difference between the sexes.
Although hormones have an effect on hunger, during pregnancy – but how does this account for women that are experiencing these lack of judgments at time when they are not carrying a child? These interesting speculations have created the judgment that some people are unable to stop eating – even after their appetite has been satisfied. Now, methods need to be developed that can help these people to stop their bad eating habits.
