belly1Weight loss is more then just counting calories. That is the simple part. It is easy to figure out how many calories you must cut back on in order to lose weight. The difficult part is execution and this may be due to a number of reasons. Persons may have psychological and emotional reasons whey they find it difficult to stay on a diet and lose weight. Therefore, it is extremely important that individuals looking to lose weight address not only their body but their mind and emotions. Ultimately, weight loss must be holistic. An individual must address the total person if they are going to have long term success.

A good place to start is one’s motivation for wanting to lose weight. It really does not matter what it is. It could be absolutely anything. The important thing is that it is determined and clear. This will help when times get tough and it is tempting to quit. A person can think back on why they wanted to lose weight in the first place.  Hopefully, this is an important enough reason to keep them on track.

Once an individual has figured out why they want to lose weight, it is time to address the body. It is important to find a plan that works well with one’s lifestyle. If a person is unable to eat every 3 hours, they should not go on the Three Day Diet Plan. If they hate meat, they should avoid the Atkins Diet. I know this is common sense but it does make a difference. Many times people become so desperate to lose weight that they will try anything, even a plan that doesn’t make sense for them. Ultimately, they will end up quitting because it is not a good fit.

There are plenty of weight loss plans out there. There is bound to be one for just about every single person. Simply taking some time and making the effort to find a good one for can pay off big. Even if it takes longer then one would like, it increase a person’s odds of succeeding tremendously if they can find a diet that they enjoy (or at least can follow).

OK, now that a person has figured out why they want to lose weight and have found the perfect diet plan, it is time to begin. Generally, the first day of a new diet is great. The individual is gung ho and excited about losing weight and their will power is incredibly strong. However, at about day 3-4 they are likely ready to quit, eat what they want and pull out the fat jeans again.

To counteract this, an individual will need to constantly find ways to motivate them self. This may include repeating some mantra to one self, setting aside a special reward or going out and buying an outfit in the size that they are trying to reach. The important thing is to find something that will keep them going and then hold on to it.

The motivational part of weight loss is so important. Many people quit their diets because they can’t find the motivation to push them through the difficult times. This is exactly why dieting must be holistic. It is important to address and support not only the physical body but also the mind. If doesn’t matter if a person is using the greatest weight loss plan in the world, if their mind and emotions aren’t strong enough to adhere to it, they won’t be successful.
